This series only gets better. "Defender of the Crown" is a cleverly written, suspenseful continuation of an already enjoyable narrative, with the added bonus of heart-wrenching character development and dawning horror as events unfold. Witanowski plays his cards delicately and powerfully, forcing the reader to both add to their suspicions from previous books, and re-evaluate their entire perception of the storyline thus far. The location may initially feel "stuffy" to readers used to following Reynard and his comrades out in the world or on the battlefield, but Witanowski knows how to dress a set for effect; consider that "stuffy" feeling a gift of ambiance and let it inform how you read this story. An excellent third offering which ends with a tremendous climax; it leaves you with plenty to chew on while awaiting book 4.....
